The former Liverpool captain has endured a difficult time at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq and is now poised to return to Europe via a move to Ajax. The 33-year-old midfielder has agreed a contract until June 2026 and will travel to Amsterdam on Thursday to complete the deal.

The Spanish giants have reportedly started negotiations with the representatives of the Manchester City star, who has a €200m release clause in his contract. Madrid’s objective is to create a link with a view to a future transfer, without paying the full amount of the clause.

• OFFICIAL: Mateo Mejia Joins Sevilla

The 20-year-old Colombian forward has completed a permanent move to Sevilla, after four-and-a-half years with Manchester United. Mejia joined United from Real Zaragoza in 2019 and made 38 appearances for the Under-21s, scoring 15 goals.

He also trained with the first team under Erik ten Hag, but failed to make a senior debut. United will have a 25% sell-on clause for Mejia, who will link up with former team-mate Hannibal at Sevilla.

• OFFICIAL: Sheraldo Becker joins Real Sociedad from Union Berlin

The Suriname international winger has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the La Liga club, after impressing in the Bundesliga. Becker scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists for Union last season, helping them qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.

• OFFICIAL: Gift Orban completes €13m move to Olympique Lyon

The Nigerian forward has secured a move from Gent to the French side, after just a year in Belgium. Orban scored 18 goals in 27 games for Gent, attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

He chose to join Lyon, who are fourth in Ligue 1 and have a reputation for developing young talents. Orban signed a four-and-a-half-year deal and will wear the number 9 shirt for the club.

• Anthony Martial trains alone at Manchester United

The French striker is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans and is working on his fitness before he can be considered for a place in the first team. Martial has started just two Premier League games this season, scoring once.
