The Blaugrana seem set to offload Frenkie de Jong this summer amidst interest from Manchester United. And as per widespread reports, Barca have identified Silva as their preferred replacement for the Dutchman this summer.

The 27-year-old has been on the radars of Barcelona since the summer of last year. An exit from the Etihad looked likely in 2021, but Silva ended up staying and enjoyed a stellar season with the Citizens as they won the Premier League title.

However, rumours about his future are starting to do the rounds yet again and the midfielder himself appeared coy on the links to Barcelona in a recent interview.

Pep Guardiola had already indicated that it would be very difficult for Barca to sign the former Benfica prodigy. And the Premier League champions have seemingly doubled down on that stance by making it clear that the 27-year-old will not be sold in the summer.

It comes as a blow for the Blaugrana, although it would have been extremely challenging for the club to sign him anyway. Silva’s current market value stands at €75 million and he still has three years left on his contract with Man City, putting them in firm control of the situation.

And now, any lingering hopes among the Catalan club’s camp to land Silva this summer are likely to have been put to bed now with Man City affirming their stance that the 27-year-old superstar is ‘non-transferable’.
