What is liver failure?

Liver failure is a serious medical condition that occurs when large parts of the liver are damaged beyond repair, and the liver can no longer function like it used to. The liver performs a number of functions such as bile production and excretion, body metabolism, enzyme activation, storage of vitamins and so on.

Foods that can lead to liver failure.

There are some foods that we consume in excess that can harm our liver and contribute sole to liver failure. See some of them below;

1. Foods that are high in fat.

One of the leading causes of liver failure is the consumption of foods high in saturated fat. Too much saturated fat in your diet can make it difficult for your liver to function properly. It may cause inflammation over time, that can lead to cirrhosis, which is scarring of the liver. Reduce your saturated fat consumption for the sake of your liver.

2. Sugary foods.

Sugar consumption that is too high can be harmful to the liver’s health. When large amounts of fructose reach the liver, it is converted to fat, a process known as lipogenesis. People who consume too much fructose may develop fatty liver disease. This is a dangerous condition that can lead to liver failure.

3. Alcohol.

Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to the liver. Long term alcohol abuse can cause the liver to swell and become inflamed. Cirrhosis is a scarring condition caused by liver damage. Cirrhosis is the most advanced form of liver disease. Reduce the amount of alcohol you consume if you don’t want to harm your liver.
