Real Madrid face Shakhtar Donetsk in Matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage on Wednesday evening and with a win, can take a huge step towards the last 16 of the tournament.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have six points from their first two games against Celtic and RB Leipzig and now they will be taking on Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, who have got four points for the first two matched played.

Considering the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the effect it has had on Shakhtar, they have been one of the surprise packages so far in the tournament.

Despite training with his teammates and being in the Real Madrid squad, Luka Modric has been left out by Carlo Ancelotti, likely as a precaution folioing the minor issue he picked up on international duty with Croatia.

Real Madrid come into this one with the majority of their key players available. Luka Modric is a doubt, though, as he is recovering from a hip injury, while Eduardo Camavinga and Thibaut Courtois are also recovering from injuries.
