In an appearance with Arise TV on Tuesday, Agbakoba stated that if subsidies were truly gone, Nigerians couldn’t be purchasing fuel for as little as N600 to N700 based on market forces.

According to the Guardian, he claimed that if worldwide fuel rates were used, Nigerian gasoline would currently cost between N1000 and N1,100 per liter.

He continued by saying that every government in the world uses subsidies in one way or another. Every government in the world, in his words, “does subsidies“.

President Tinubu just increased fuel subsidies without informing us. It is obvious that we should be paying N1000–N1100 for fuel if we use worldwide rates, but instead we only pay N600–N700.

Therefore, let’s put an end to all the hypocrisy, promote domestic manufacturing, sell the four refineries, and welcome the local owners of modular refineries to the team.

Recall that on May 29, 2023, the day of his inauguration, President Tinubu stated that Nigeria’s fuel subsidy period was over.
