The 2021/2022 season saw several players displaying impressive accuracy, only to be denied by the woodwork. Let’s take a closer look at the players who hit the bar the most during the campaign.

Leading the pack is Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-Min Son, whose powerful attempts rattled the crossbar a staggering five times out of 81 shots. Son’s precision and ability to strike the ball cleanly were evident throughout the season, but luck often eluded him as his efforts narrowly missed converting into goals.

Darwin Nunez, representing Liverpool closely follows Son with five shots hitting the woodwork from a total of 84 attempts. Nunez showed his shooting prowess but had to endure the frustration of the ball crashing against the bar on multiple occasions.

Another player who experienced a similar fate is Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. Despite his commendable performance, Watkins also had five shots ricochet off the crossbar out of 86 attempts. The striker’s accuracy and technique were undeniable, but his lack of fortune denied him the joy of finding the back of the net more frequently.

Manchester United’s talisman, Bruno Fernandes, is known for his long-range strikes and ability to create scoring opportunities. However, the Portuguese midfielder was unlucky as five of his 92 shots during the season hit the woodwork.

Erling Braut Haaland also suffered from the curse of the crossbar. Haaland, who enjoyed an exceptional season with Man City saw five of his shots hitting the woodwork out of an impressive 123 shots on target.

The young striker’s strength, accuracy, and lethal finishing often left opposing defenses helpless, but he had to settle for the sound of the ball striking the crossbar instead of the roar of the crowd celebrating a goal.
