Hannah Levine, 30, was told to ‘chuck dinner on the table’, and took the instruction rather literally when plating up spaghetti for her daughter Willow, 10, and son Oakley.

Footage captures the baffled children as Ms Levine first places the pasta, then sauce and meatballs, on the dining table while Willow and her five-year-old son watch.

The 10-year-old, from Dunmow in Essex, is heard asking: ‘What are you doing?’ before her mother explains that tonight will be a ‘fun dinner’.

They quickly dig in, abandoning their knives and forks, and the family’s three Yorkshire Terriers also clambered onto the table to join in the unusual meal.

Ms Levinesaid the fully vegan meal cost around £10 to make and the hack meant it only took ’30 seconds’ to clean up with no washing up required.

The mother-of-two said the hack also helped her encourage her children to eat more food at dinnertime. ‘I t was a joke really. I told my husband dinner was ready and he said “chuck it on the table and I’ll be there in a minute” so I did,’ she said.

‘They [my kids] loved it and in the end gave up with cutlery and it was a free for all.’ Before calling her children down for dinner, Ms Levine placed two disposable tablecloths and tin foil on the table to protect the surface and keep the food warm.

She said her family didn’t know what she was going to do and they thought she was having a ‘breakdown’ when she started to tip their tea all over the table.

The cleaner added: ‘When I first poured the spaghetti onto the table, they were like “Mum, what are you doing?”.

She said: ‘Normally I make a large dinner and then any leftovers my husband takes to work the next day. ‘On this occasion, my dogs joined in and ate whatever was left and then the rest went in the bin.

‘My kids were so distracted by the fun element of this tea, they tucked in and ate more than they usually would. ‘It became a challenge between them of who could eat the most off the table.’

After serving the spaghetti meal, Hannah shared her fun teatime activity with her friends and posted a video of her kid’s reactions to the ‘plate-less’ meal on Facebook.

The mother said: ‘When I posted the video to Facebook and sent it to some of my friends, I had mixed reactions back.

‘Some said it looked really fun and others said they wouldn’t do it in their house because of the mess but there’s actually less mess with this dinner as it’s so easy to clean up.
