Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a protege of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, won the hotly contested governorship election.
Yusuf garnered 1,019,602 votes to defeat the incumbent deputy governor, Nasir Yusuf Gauna of the APC, who garnered 892,705 votes.
In response, Kano city authorities instructed supporters of the ruling party to ignore the provocation by the NNPP, which was carried out in the name of celebration.
The Information Officer, Muhammad Garba, promised that Governor Ganduje would protect lives and property.
He said, “APC is analyzing the electoral process and collating the results in order to make a decision at the appropriate time.
We appeal to party members to remain resolute and loyal to the party,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the Kano state government has imposed a curfew across the state to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Early Monday morning, Malam Muhammad Garba said in a statement that the decision was appropriate to avoid a breakdown of law and order in the wake of tensions arising from the collation of the results of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
Garba claimed that some hoodlums have already heightened tensions and are trying to create chaos in an already tense situation.
The commissioner called on people in the province to stay indoors, as security officials would not overlook any person or group trying to cause trouble.
