The deceased has been identified as Eric Masaja. Kiminini Police Commander John Onditi confirmed the incident.
“I received a call from my wife informing me that our son had been badly bitten by dogs. I took my motorbike and rushed to scene,” said Mzee Masaja, Eric’s father.
“On arriving at the scene, I found him lying on his stomach. I tried to ask him what had happened. He just said, ‘dogs’, and was sounding very weak.
“It was then that we put him onto the motorbike, and rushed him to the nearby hospital where he was unfortunately declared dead,” narrated Mzee Masaja.
Some of the residents said they had heard cries at night of someone shouting for help and dogs barking uncontrollably.
According to the family, their son was beaten by the dogs as he was returning home from work in Bigtree area, although the police had a slightly different account of things.
Speaking about the incident, Mzee Nerman Okutoi, the Welfare chairman in the area, said he visited the scene of the incident together with the father of the deceased, and even spoke to the said neighbour about the incident, and his dogs.
“The scene looked like a war ground. I could see pieces of torn clothes and dog prints. You could tell that the boy had really struggled to free himself from the dogs,” said Okutoi.
The boy is said to have sustained injuries to the neck, head, and other parts of the body. Police Commander Onditi said that the DCI officials have begun investigations into the incident, and are waiting a postmortem report.
Residents said that it is not the first time this is happening, with many now asking that measures be taken to prevent future occurrence..<<CONTINUE READING>>
