On 1st September, 2021, Portugal hosted Ireland for their World Cup qualifying match. It seemed to be a frustrating match for Cristiano Ronaldo as most of his attacks were neutralized by the Irish defense. At last, he earned a penalty kick in the first half of the game. Immediately, Dara O’Shea fell to the ground holding his face. Despite all these, Ronaldo escaped any punishment as the referees were not aware of the incident. Many people believe that the referee was afraid to award a red card to Ronaldo for that silly act. In my own opinion, I feel that Ronaldo just exhibited his human nature of anger and shouldn’t be blamed for his actions. After all, it was the Irish defender who looked for his trouble.

Ronaldo’s penalty kick was later saved by Gavin Baznu. In the 45th minute, John Egan scored the first goal of the game for Ireland. They held onto the lead until the 89th minute, when Ronaldo scored two goals to secure a wondrous comeback. His two goals in that match helped him break the record of the most international goals scored by a male player. He registered a tally of 111 goals, surpassing Ali Daei’s former record of 109 goals.
