Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly reluctant to let Mason Greenwood leave on a permanent basis this summer.

Greenwood was facing charges relating to attempted rape and assault but it was announced in February that the case against has been discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service.

This decision was made after it was ruled that “the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.

Man Utd have conducted their own investigation into Greenwood’s conduct in recent months and put him on the list of players retained this summer.

This did cause a stir on social media, though transfer expert Fabrizio Romano was quick to confirm “no outcome” has been reached yet.

Romano insisted the player remains under contract with a decision to “follow later”.

A recent report from The Sun said Ten Hag wants to bring Greenwood back into the squad with the 21-year-old’s teammates willing to ‘welcome him back’.

There has been talk of an exit this summer, with a permanent and loan exit both being discussed.

Greenwood reportedly has interest from Turkey, Italy and China, but a report from the Manchester Evening News says Ten Hag has ruled out a sale.

It is claimed Man Utd are now ‘leaning towards loaning’ the young forward as Ten Hag is ‘against selling’ him.

The Dutch manager has remained coy when asked about Greenwood in the past but did tell The Times in May that the England international “showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [centre forward role]”.

Greenwood was recently pictured training privately. He has not returned to the Red Devils’ Carrington training ground since the charges were dropped earlier this year.

The 21-year-old is under contract until 2025, with the option for a further year, and has been valued as high as €50million by Transfermarkt in the past.

He has not played for Man Utd since the 1-0 win over West Ham in January 2022.

That appearance was his 129th for the club. He has scored 35 goals and provided 12 assisted times for Man Utd.
