What Does the Colour of your tongue say about your health?

1. If your tongue is black, then it means there is a high buildup of keratin on your tongue. There are certain causes of triggers responsible for this and they are as follows;

I. Bad oral hygiene

Ii. Radiation therapy

III. Certain medications such as antibiotics

2. If your tongue changes colour to white, then it could be due to oral thrush or fungal infections. When it’s due to oral thrush, then you may notice white patches on the tongue that are very painful and makes it really difficult for you to eat. One of the diseases that causes oral thrush or oral yeast Infection is, HIV.

3. If the tongue is purple then it could be due to poor blood circulation in the body or an indication of a heart related issues. Purple tongue is rare but something to take very seriously.

4. If the tongue is yellow, then it could be due to poor oral hygiene and even dry mouth which leads to buildup of bacteria on the tongue. This is not usually as a result of a serious problem.

5. If the tongue is red in colour, then it could be a sign of vitamin B deficiency or scarlet fever. If you’re running short of vitamin B, your tongue colour might change to red.
