People usually say that beggars would ride if wishes were horses. It is so surprising to see how quickly southern governors are letting go of their demand after some months. This is obvious in the sense that the zoning system has been put aside by the two prominent political parties in Nigeria with the verdict that the presidential candidate of the party can come from any geopolitical zone of the country. Apart from the zoning system, another factor that shows that the southern governors are forgetting their demand is that politicians who have been declaring ambitions for the upcoming presidential election are from the northern part of the country. No popular politician from the southern part of the country has announced his intentions to run for the office of the president till the present moment. Lastly, another powerful indication to consider concerning southern governors’ demand is the fact that even when Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State when enlisting people that will be fighting for the presidential ticket of the opposition party. He listed prominent politicians from the northern part of the country as the party’s top contenders. Atiku Abubakar, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Bala Mohammed were spoken about by Governor Seyi Makinde when he was talking about a possible candidate for the opposition party.
