Some of the problems you can face when you stare at the computer or phone screen for a long time include eyestrain, dry eyes, blurry vision, headaches, trouble focusing at a distance, and shoulder, neck, and back pain. According to a post on the WebMD website, below are some of the ways you can protect your eyes from the computer or phone screen.

1. Make sure your the prescriptions for your eye glasses or contacts are current and suitable for computer use.

2. Consult your doctor about desktop or laptop glasses if your eye strain persists.

3. Adjust the screen so that your eyes fall at the same level as the monitor’s top. This allows you to gaze down at the screen significantly.

4. Try to keep the use of bright lights and windows to a minimum. This will help to reduce the strain the lights have on your eyes, in addition to that of the computer. If necessary, use an anti-glare screen.

5. Choose a chair that is supportive and comfortable. It should be positioned such that your feet are flat on the ground.

6. If you have dry eyes, try blinking more or using artificial tears.

7. Take a 20-minute break to rest your eyes. For 20 seconds, look a few meters away. Consider taking a 15-minute break every 2 hours at the absolute minimum.
