The first half at Anfield saw both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur squander good number of goalscoring chances and they headed for the tunnel with a goalless scoreline.
Five minutes into the second half, Tottenham Hotspur broke the deadlock through Son Heung-Min, after a nice passage of play by Antonio Conte’s side.
Liverpool pulled level in the 74th minute after a deflection helped to guide Luis Diaz’s shot past Hugo Loris.
Neither of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur was able to take the lead and the match at Anfield ended one goal apiece. The result propelled Liverpool to the top of the English Premier League log ahead of Manchester City on goal difference. However a victory for Manchester city against Newcastle United tomorrow will see Pep Guardiola’s men three points ahead of Liverpool.
In his post-match conference, Jurgen Klopp expressed his displeasure with Tottenham Hotspur’s approach to the game, explaining that Antonio Conte’s side sat back for majority of the match and should have deployed a more attacking approach.
Although Tottenham Hotspur came into the match with a defensive approach, I will not buy Jurgen Klopp’s claim that Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive tactics is to be blame for his team’s failure to grab all three points against Tottenham Hotspur. Jurgen Klopp has the freedom to deploy whatever tactics he wants, so why should Antonio Conte be faulted for his tactics?
Jurgen Klopp usually makes excuses whenever the result does not go in Liverpool’s favour and I think the German tactician should get rid of this attitude. Liverpool were not at their best against Tottenham Hotspur. Jurgen Klopp should have admitted it wholeheartedly without pointing fingers at his opponent.
