Mentioning the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Victor Moses, Mikel Obi, Osaze Odemwingie and the rest who have made wonderful performances in the English Premier League. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

But however, there are few other Nigerian footballers who have failed to shine in the English Premier League as expected, and below are four of them.

1. Sam Sodje

Okeremute Samuel Sodje was born in England to Nigerian parent, he represented the super eagles of Nigeria at international level, but his premier league career was nothing to reckon with.

on 31 January, 2006, he turned down a move to Southampton, and later joined Reading on 14 July, 2006; but the move turned out to be a very disappointing one as he made only three (3) appearances throughout the 2006/07 season, with no goal and no assist.

2. Danny Shittu

It is unbelievable and also a big turndown to know that Danny Shittu made 40 appearance and scored only one goal with no assist throughout his career in the premier league, despite playing for five different club sides in the elite division.

According to premierleague.com, Shittu started his English Premier League career at Charlton where he failed to play a single game from the 2000/2001 season until 2005/06 season. He later joined Watford in 2006 and was among the defensive line which conceeded the most goals that led to the Hornets being relegated.

With a move to Bolton in 2008, which was a quick comeback to the premier league, but he only managed to make 10 appearances that season and was unceremoniously released by Bolton.

3. Julius Aghahowa

Julius Aghahowa was one of the most feared and respected player in Europe while he was still playing for shakhtar Donestk, with his countless goals, he helped the Ukrainian premier league side to win multiple league titles and respect on the continent of Europe.

But his move to the English Premier League was not a successful one, with a move to Wigan Athletic, the Nigerian striker struggled in the club side; making 20 appearances without a single goal but only made one assist before his career at the English Premier League came to an end.

4. Ahmed Musa

Having conquered all and sundry in the Russian premier league with CSKA Moscow, where he won three titles, one FA cup and two super cups, Ahmed Musa joined Leicester city during the 2016 summer transfer window.

However, his move to Leicester city turned out to be a disappointing one as he made a total of 33 appearances in which he scored five goals with no assist before leaving the foxes in 2018.

According to FourFourTwo magazine, he has been mentioned to be one of the worst 50 players in the English Premier League history and was ranked number 44.
