Manchester United put on a strong defensive performance, and the manager would be happy with how the game turned out.
In the 35th minute, Antony scored the sole goal for United in the first half with a spectacular effort that beat Ramsdale.
One of the main talking points of the first half was Ronaldo’s response when Antony scored with a beautiful close-range goal.
Ten Hag liked attacking players who could cover the field with their superb runs, therefore the Portuguese star was left out of the starting lineup. The excellent attacker has started a game off the bench five times so far this campaign.
Despite not being in the starting lineup, Ronaldo surprised everyone by expressing his appreciation for Antony’s goal. When Antony scored in his first game for the club, Ronaldo promptly sprang to his feet and started applauding for the Brazilian.
Another talking point in the game was the referee and VAR’s decision to overrule Martinelli’s goal in the first half. Odegaard was said to have fouled Eriksen in the buildup to Martinelli’s goal.
The replay of the incident suggests that the contact on Eriksen wasn’t enough to fall him down. However, the referee decided to penalise Odegaard for the foul on Eriksen and the goal was ultimately disallowed.
I guess that was the worst decision by the VAR and referee in the game because the result would have turned out different if the goal had stood.
