Hormonal treatments
Studies have shown that testosterone and other hormone levels that are either too high or too low can cause low sperm count, hence it’s of paramount importance to address the levels with medications and other treatments that may help restore fertility.
Studies have also shown that the use of anabolic steroids, testosterone, or even most over-the-counter testosterone boosters can cause infertility, hence avoid these.
2. Medications
Medications can be used to treat infections in the reproductive tract and It’s of high importance to treat infections promptly. Studies have shown that even if an infection is properly treated, sperm count may not always return to normal if permanent tissue scarring has occurred.
3. Surgery
Surgery is a good option for cases involving large varicoceles, blockages, or issues with sperm leaving the body. For instance, minor outpatient surgery can be used to correct a varicocele, and previous vasectomies can be overturned.
In some situations, sperm can be obtained directly for assisted reproduction procedures like in vitro fertilization (IVF) by surgically retrieving it from the testicle or epididymis.
