However, Tinubu received 8,805,835 votes from the 36 states and the FCT, according to figures submitted by state collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs) before the chairman of the INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.
Speaking further, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubaka who received 6,984,640 votes, came in second place to Tinubu.
In addition, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Gregory Obi came in third with 6,096,017 votes, closely followed by the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso who received 1,499,303 votes.
Moreover, it was also recorded that Atiku won 12 states, Tinubu won 12, Obi won 11 states with the Federal Capital Territory while Kwankwaso won one state.
The INEC chairman anticipates making the official announcement of the winner at any time now.
He also made it known that a presidential candidate can only be declared the victor, in accordance with Section 134 of the Nigerian Constitution, if they receive the majority of votes cast in the election and not less than one-quarter of the votes cast in at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the FCT.
