Karim scored the second goal for Real Madrid on the night to cement their hopes of lifting the Super Cup, and in so doing broke the record as he beat Raul who previously held the record.
However, Benzema is still miles away from equalling Cristiano Ronaldo and may never do so as he is in his 30s and has over 100 goals to score before he can reach that.
Real Madrid would begin their La Liga campaign this weekend, as they would be aiming to win it in successive seasons once again in their history.
They are simply the best team in Europe and would continue to be until another club can rival their capabilities in domestic and European competitions.
