After a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the GDI leaders expressed their allegiance to the Rivers State Government and the Simplified Movement.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Collins Onuwo, a former Chairman of the Coordinators Forum of the Grassroots Development Initiative and current Chairman of GDI, stated, “Two days ago, Coordinators of the Grassroots Development Initiative from various local governments resigned and joined three members who had earlier stepped down.
“These members include Kinikawa Amada of Port Harcourt Local Government, Daddy Green of Ahoada-West, Elder Ogolo of Opobo-Nkoro LGA, and Agumuo Eze of Oyibo LGA.
We want the public to understand that the GDI, the movement, the association, the group, was founded by the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. He established that group.
“That group was instrumental in his rise to power, supporting him for a second term. It has been his stronghold. However, today, we have collectively decided to disassociate ourselves from that group.
“Our decision is driven by our commitment to stand with the people of Rivers. The interest of Rivers State is our priority. When GDI was formed in 2012 and 2013, we were charged to stand for Rivers’ interest.
What was Rivers’ interest then? It was to ensure the protection of our brother-in-law, the President of Nigeria at the time, who happened to marry our beloved daughter, Patience Jonathan.
“That was the essence of Rivers’ interest then, and we rallied behind that cause, which propelled our leader to become the Governor. In his second term, the interest was challenged by forces in Abuja, but Rivers’ interest prevailed.
“People sacrificed, lives were lost, injuries endured, and souls departed, may they rest in peace. He emerged victorious in that election. We stood resolute for Rivers State and the entire nation.
“Women took to the streets in protest. Back then, the sight of women protesting in the nude was a symbol of defiance. Today, what is Rivers’ interest? It is to safeguard the integrity of our votes cast for Siminalayi Fubara.
“The Supreme Court has validated his victory in the most peaceful election, free of violence, accidents, or gunfire, where Fubara emerged victorious in all the Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“This unprecedented success… today, one individual opposes the outcome of the election. We stand alongside millions of Rivers women, youths, and elders in defending our votes.
“We do not care who holds the Governor’s office. An attack on any youth in this state is an assault on the entire state. All Rivers State youths will unite against such actions. The battle for Edison Ehie, who stood for truth… we are all prepared to stand with Edison Ehie, even to the end…CONTINUE READING>>
