Arsenal submit €40m to sign Asensio

According to Spanish website Defensa Central, Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window.

However, the Gunners have made a €40 million bid for the 26-year-old Real Madrid forward, while AC Milan have made a €30 million offer. Marco Asensio appears to be growing closer to leaving Real Madrid with each passing day, his future shrouded in ambiguity. Real Madrid will not extend a new contract to the Spaniard.

With his contract expiring in a year, Asensio may decide to leave the Santiago Bernabeu during the summer transfer window. That is absurd, given that he finished the season as Real Madrid’s third-highest goalscorer, with 12 goals in 42 games across all competitions.

However, Asensio’s precarious contract position means that clubs throughout Europe are interested in signing him during the summer transfer window, with Arsenal among his potential suitors.

Arsenal’s interest comes amid widespread uncertainty about Nicolas Pepe’s future. The Ivory Coast international has become a peripheral character for Arsenal in the last year and could leave in the summer transfer window.

With Pepe gone, Mikel Arteta will be looking for a wide attacker, with Asensio surfacing as a possible target for Arsenal. And the north Londoners have made contact with the Real Madrid forward to discuss the prospect of a summer switch to the Emirates.

At the same time, Arsenal will have to contend with AC Milan in the hunt to sign the 26-year-old forward.

However, Arsenal will be confident in getting Asensio during the summer transfer window after submitting a €40 million offer to Real Madrid.

With AC Milan’s bid being lower than theirs, Arsenal will fancy the prospect of securing the services of the Spanish international. For now, it looks like Asensio will leave Real Madrid this summer, with Arsenal a possible destination over a €40 million move.
