Chelsea’s local rivals Manchester United have long been interested in moving in for De Jong but the player has remained indifferent to signing for Eric ten Hag’s side who would not be competing in the Champions League this coming season.
The Holland international maestro has found a new suitor in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea with the Stamford Bridge camp looking to reinforce their midfield ranks with De Jong made available by Barca, according to the Spanish news outlet SPORT.
De Jong is still to give United the green light over his proposed move to Old Trafford despite Barcelona agreeing on a deal that could run up to £72 million with add-ons as Xavi aims to balance his books after forking out big money in the transfer window.
The offer of Champions League football at the Bridge is understood to be the lucrative factor for the ex-Ajax starlet De Jong to consider signing for Chelsea who would be glad to snap up the highly rated midfield man.
