According to The Guardian, the Blues will “soon” complete the signing of 31-year-old centre-back Koulibaly after agreeing a €40million (£33.8million) fee with Napoli.

It is understood Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is actually keen to bring in three new centre-halves, though.

The report explains they could now make a move to sign PSG centre-back Kimpembe, who the French club would actually be open to selling for the right fee.

In addition, Tuchel is an admirer of the £164,000-a-week star after previously coaching him in the French capital. Blues star Thiago Silva likes him as well after playing alongside him at PSG.

Chelsea target Kimpembe

It looks like the Blues are pressing ahead with a revamp of their backline, which is understandable given the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen in the summer.

Tuchel’s knowledge and understanding of Kimpembe is a massive tick against his name as a transfer target.

The 26-year-old left-footer is a centre-back that’s got plenty of experience on the biggest stage, which has even included captaining his country France.

Another key factor is the partnership with Silva, who’s currently the real leader in the Chelsea backline at Stamford Bridge.

A hypothetical summer window in which both Koulibaly and Kimpembe join the Blues is a very positive one. They are reportedly chasing another centre-back in Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, too.
