A military expert claims Russian President Vladimir Putin might consider wiping out the UK in a potential World War 3 by triggering a massive radioactive tsunami....CONTINUE READING

retired Colonel Simon Diggins Britain could be “uniquely vulnerable” to such an attack due to its geography and the hostilities raised by President Putin based on UK’s strong support for Ukraine.

The military expert has noted allegations from the early period of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. There was a suggestion that Moscow could launch the RS-28 Sarmat missile into the Irish Sea.

This missile, when detonated, could set off a gigantic tidal wave as high as 1,640ft which would essentially knock out the UK due to the extensive damage caused.

This huge wave of water – almost half the height of Scafell Pike in England’s Lake District – would carry high levels of radiation. It would turn whatever is left of Britain into a “radioactive desert”, reports the Express.

The RS-28 Sarmat, also known as Satan II, is a powerful intercontinental ballistic missile capable of demolishing an entire country with just one blow.

After Ukraine, Putin could set his sights on Latvia and Lithuania as he seeks to rebuild Russia. Colonel Diggins made these remarks following Putin’s bolstered grip on power after an election victory. Putin reportedly secured nearly 88 per cent of the vote count, which Western leaders regard as fraudulent.

Since his victory on March 17, Putin has vowed to intensify his war against Ukraine. Meanwhile, billions of dollars in military aid sent to Ukraine has been delayed due to political bickering in the US.

Col. Diggins, a former tank commander in the British Army, warns Express.co.uk of the very real danger we’re already facing, even if it’s two to three years away.

He says: “We’re already in a place of real and present danger. Not next week or the week after, but in two to three years’ time. We’ve got no time if we’re serious about having armed forces that can deter him. We’re at a minute to midnight.”

Col. Diggins served in places like Northern Ireland, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He warned that Putin really doesn’t like the UK, which makes us a target if Russia decides to push their military force beyond eastern Europe.

He went on to say: “He’s got a very particular animus against us. We have been a strong supporter of Ukraine in public and in terms of financial aid. We are also the weakest link. Our defences are etiolated. We make a lot of noise but our army is about to become the smallest it’s been since the Napoleonic Wars.”

Also, the size of our regular army is set to be cut to 73,000 by next year under the Government’s plans. Plus, our armed forces find it hard both to meet recruitment targets and to keep existing personnel.

Colonel Richard Kemp has expressed concerns that the UK’s defence abilities may not match the tough words of its politicians, particularly when compared to Russia.

Vladimir Putin, he says, has the populace behind his bid to restore Russia to powerful nation status and is preparing his economy for potential conflicts.

Earlier this year, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Patrick Sanders, suggested the UK might need to prepare for conflict, potentially needing to reintroduce conscription should a major war with Russia occur. Britain should focus more on immediate military needs such as recruitment, Colonel Diggins says.

Over the weekend, it was reported that UK intelligence services received a list of nine potential targets within Britain that Russia could attack first if war breaks out globally. The identified locations include Chatham in Kent, Salisbury in Wiltshire, and Colchester in Essex.

Discussing reports that Russia might direct a Satan II nuclear missile at the Irish Sea, a move suggested by initial Russian propaganda related to the broader conflict with Ukraine, Colonel Kemp stated, “Could he contemplate something as grim and awful as that? The answer to that is ‘yes’.”

He went on to explain how Russia would aim to incapacitate the UK, eliminating any chance for a counter-attack. He concluded, “They will be thinking in these terms. Somewhere in the recesses of their minds, people are thinking they can do this with this technology.”

In 2018, during his State of the Nation address, Putin introduced Satan II, claiming that it can go beyond any defence system. He warned those posing a danger to Russia in “the heat of frenzied, aggressive rhetoric” should bear this in mind.

Dmitry Kiselyov, one of Putin’s top media allies, took part in a war of words in May 2022. He warned that “just one launch” would mean “England is gone”. However, some have questioned Russia’s capability to wipe out Britain using a single weapon and if they really have such a weapon.

Colonel Diggins still stresses we need to take Putin’s threats seriously. He supports increasing demands for the UK to boost its military spending.

There are rising concerns that Russia may initiate World War 3 by invading a NATO country. This would activate Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which states an attack on a member country is an attack on all members.

The defence expert suggests Latvia or Lithuania could be Putin’s next target. They’re two European Union countries within NATO with a history as Soviet Union territories and sizable Russian ethnic populations.

Col. Diggins compares a possible attack on one or both Baltic states by Putin to Hitler’s annexation of Sudetenland in 1938. He says Putin might try to justify the move arguing the need to protect “persecuted” ethnic Russians while reclaiming former Soviet lands for Russia.

Colonel Diggins has said the UK needs to understand the challenge, saying: “The only language Putin seems to understand is the language of force. we are making the most noise, but not matching our noise with our capability.”

He’s worried that the UK’s spending on future security might not be enough for problems we have now, like getting and keeping soldiers.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson told us: “Our armed forces are among the very best in the world and we are spending a record amount on defence.”

They added: “This includes an extra £24billion between 2020-2025, the largest sustained increase since the end of the Cold War.”

“The military is protecting the UK and our allies, including on every single NATO mission, supporting Ukraine against Putin’s aggression and tackling Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.”

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said in the Budget that the Government wants to spend 2.5 percent of all the money the country makes (GDP) on defence when it can.

In 2024/25, the UK plans to spend 2.3 percent of its GDP on defence that’s £55.6bn – which is 1.8 percent more than last year, the MoD says.

Every year, the MoD will spend a huge £25bn with UK companies to get new equipment for soldiers, and about 85 percent of this money will stay in Britain…CONTINUE READING>>
