Madein acknowledged that challenges such as insufficient revenue and competing government expenditures have caused some delay in the payment process.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Madein stated, “The N35,000 wage award is to go on for six months, until a new national minimum wage is agreed upon, and the government is committed to meeting that obligation. But the limited nature of government revenue and contending issues requiring attention caused some delay. We cannot leave monthly salaries and prioritize the wage award.”
She emphasized that as government revenue continues to improve, it will fulfill its commitments to all Nigerians, including the workers.
The AGF highlighted the government’s intention to mobilize sufficient revenue to meet its obligations effectively.
The announcement of the N35,000 wage award came shortly after President Bola Tinubu declared the removal of the petrol subsidy.
