The 23-year-old has been a long-term target of the Blues, with a deal for Kounde falling through last summer.

It was previously reported that Chelsea were looking to make up to four defensive signings during the summer transfer window, having already seen Kalidou Koulibaly join the club from Napoli.

It was stated that Thomas Tuchel’s side were set to make a bid for the defender in the coming week.

It has now been revealed that this bid has been submitted, as the latest revelations have been reported.

As reported by Nathan Gissing, Chelsea are in negotiations with Sevilla and have sent a proposal of €50 million plus add ons for Kounde.

There is confidence on the club’s side to get a deal done but it remains to be seen as to whether a fee can be agreed in a quick manner.

Barcelona are also interested in the 23-year-old, but with their current financial situation, they could miss out on the defender.

Furthermore, Ben Jacobs added to the update on Kounde’s future.

The journalist reported that the La Liga side are waiting for over €60 million, hoping for a bidding war between Barcelona and Chelsea.

However, the Blues are hopeful of agreeing a fee with Sevilla this week, which could hand a blow to Barcelona.

Xavi Hernandez’s side are yet to formally bid to Sevilla, who are waiting to see whether their La Liga rivals will make an offer for the defender.

Furthermore, Jacobs states that sources closer to Kounde believe he is excited by the arrival of Koulibaly at Stamford Bridge, and the chance to learn from the 31-year-old.

However, the race is still open as Barcelona intend to make an offer for Kounde despite not having done so yet.

It remains to be seen as to whether Chelsea will be successful in the pursuit of Kounde this summer.

With Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both playing in Spain next season, Kounde could be seen as the ideal replacement.

Furthermore, Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe.

Tuchel, who worked with the 26-year-old in Paris, has reportedly made contact with his former player in order to sell the idea of a move to London.

It will no doubt be a key week ahead for the Blues as they look to make additions in defence.
