According to a report on Daily Trust Newspaper, the new National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu was inaugurated on Friday 11th of December, 2021. During the inauguration, Iyorcha Ayu accused President Buhari of mismanaging the economy and leaving the country in ruins. He said that Buhari’s administration is known for its irresponsible borrowing....CONTINUE READING

In a swift response on Saturday, APC National Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe stated that the opposition party led by Ayu is off to a bad start because it failed to address basic issues and appears to be primarily focused on gaining power in 2023.

Moreso, the PDP’s sole goal is to gain power by any means necessary, ignoring the need for genuine restitution, the return of stolen public funds and assets still held by politically exposed individuals during its 16-year administration, and, ultimately, providing the truly viable and credible opposition that our democracy requires to thrive, Sen. John stated.

He posited that PDP’s new leadership must demonstrate to Nigerians that it is willing and ready to give up its penchant for impunity by submitting to the new democratic environment established by President Muhammadu Buhari’s APC government, where votes matter and the people’s will prevails in all electoral contests. The PDP, led by Senator Iyorcha Ayu, has a difficult task ahead of them. Not 2023 handover notes’ hollow and stale rhetoric.

Iyorcha Ayu should be tasked with improving the PDP’s image in Nigeria. Instead of always criticizing the APC over their failure to lead the country, Ayu should focus on rebuilding the PDP. He should bring the governors of the PDP together because some of them are divided over their various interests ahead of the general elections in 2023. He needs to put an end to the party’s recent defections. In 2023, his primary concern should be how to propel the PDP to greater heights while also bringing back those who left the party.

In 2023, PDP National Chairman Iyorcha predicted that the party will recapture at least 25 states. What plans does Iyorcha have in place to ensure that PDP reclaims all 25 states? I hope he isn’t bragging about it. PDP gaining power in 2023 will necessitate a lot of work on the ground, not just making speeches. He should put in place policies and programs that would protect and improve the lives of all Nigerians.
