Throughout his career, Mourinho has overseen a range of goalkeeper sales, but only a small group are still active – one of whom is Emiliano Viviano.

Viviano’s association with Inter was short-lived, as he played for Brescia and was then bought to Bologna. He is currently without a club but recently expressed a desire to end his career where it began, Brescia.

Centre-back: David Luiz

A popular player among Chelsea fans owing to his role in prevailing the Champions League, David Luiz spent one season under Jose Mourinho in the 2013/14 campaign. It appears that was all Mourinho needed to decide he would be better off without the Brazilian.

He returned to Chelsea after Mourinho left before due to this fact signing for Arsenal, where – for good or bad – is he never some distance away from the spotlight.

Centre-back: Ezequiel Garay

Prior to Mourinho’s arrival at Real Madrid in 2010, Ezequiel Garay had been a player used fairly often by Los Blancos, however without really nailing down a starting spot.

He used to be sold to Benfica and has represented Zenit and Valencia since.

Centre-back: Leonardo Bonucci

Leonardo Bonucci joined Inter Milan at a young age but only made four appearances for the Nerazzurri, spending a lot of his time away on loan.

The pair would go on to be vital as Mourinho and Inter won the treble. Bonucci, meanwhile, has enjoyed success of his own, going on to come to be one of the best centre-backs in Italy

Left-midfield: Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay will always, unfortunately, be remembered as a failure at Manchester United, having struggled to live up to high expectations following his move from PSV in June 2015.

Depay is now one of the most dangerous forwards when on his game, leaving many United fans ruing the decision to sell him.

Centre-midfield: Daley Blind

Here’s one sale that, perhaps, amazed many as Daley Blind appeared a useful player for Mourinho at Manchester United. The Dutchman played 56 times for Mourinho, often as the utility man, featuring at centre-back, left-back and in midfield. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

Centre-midfield: Sergio Canales

Sergio Canales was one of the first new arrivals of the Mourinho generation at Real Madrid, joining from Racing Santander in July 2010 – although the deal was agreed in February.

Canales is now at Real Betis, for whom he scored six times in La Liga remaining season.

Right-midfield: Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah joined Chelsea in Mourinho’s first campaign back at Stamford Bridge, having proved a handful against the Blues in the Champions League group stage that season. But he struggled to make an have an impact on in a Chelsea team boasting a lot of attacking talent at that time.

After rebuilding his image in Italy, Salah has validated all doubters wrong by being key for Liverpool back in the Premier League.

Attacking-midfield: Kevin De Bruyne

Alongside Salah, Kevin De Bruyne is widely regarded as one of the biggest mistakes Mourinho made. The Belgian joined Chelsea in 2012 but spent loan spells at former membership Genk and then Werder Bremen.

Since then, De Bruyne has shown himself to be one of the best midfielders in the world, helping Man City win the Premier League twice so far.

Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The only player in this XI to have been offloaded twice by Mourinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had his first experience of the Portuguese manager at Inter Milan.

After extending his one-year deal in the summer season of 2017, Ibrahimovic would eventually leave for LA Galaxy in March 2018.

Now, calling time on his MLS spell, Ibrahimovic has been linked with a move to Tottenham, potentially linking up with Mourinho one extra time.

Striker: Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea in 2011 but struggled for playing time, having to contest with Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and Salomon Kalou for the starting striker role. He was despatched on loan for 2012/13.

He was subsequently loaned to Everton on the final day of the 2013 switch window and sold to the Toffees the following year. Lukaku has since reunited with Mourinho at Manche ster United before joining Inter Milan in the summer.
