The former Barcelona star was accused of raping a 23 year old after luring her to the bathroom of a night club in Barcelona.
Alves initially was held in pre-trial detention pending the decision of the jury. He repeatedly changed his story every time new evidence was presented to counter his defense.
After initially claiming not to know the victim, he then denied having any form of sexual relations with the her. Finally, he accepted there was consensual sex. He claimed his denial was an attempt to cover his infidelity from his wife who has since split from him.
Eventually, the court was presented with sufficient evidence to back up the victim’s testimony, proving that she was raped.
Dani Alves has been sentenced to a four and half year term and ordered to pay his victim €150,000.
Rumors have now circulated that Dani Alves has committed suicide in prison.
Reports had circulated during the trial period of Alves feeling depressed as he feared the worst was coming his way.
The news of Alves’ suicide broke on X and quickly generated a lot of engagement. Others have moved to counter the information, saying that the news originated from an online troll posing as a journalist.
But of course this can’t be true because Dani Alves is set to be detained in the Brians 2 prison in Barcelona.
A former cell mate of Dani Alves said in an interview that the prison has an anti-suicide protocol in place. The protocol prevents ex-players from commiting suicide or any form of harm on themselves.
