Now that Todd Boehly has completed his takeover, Thomas Tuchel will be eager to begin building his team in order to reduce the gap between Manchester City and Liverpool.

Before adding star players like Raheem Sterling or Ousmane Dembele to last season’s side, the German will have to replace those who have left.

Antonio Rudiger, who was selected to the PFA Team of the Year yesterday, has already left for Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen has already left for Barcelona.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso might join Christensen in Catalonia, while Romelu Lukaku wants to return to Inter Milan.

Tuchel will have to decide on back-ups for Reece James and Ben Chilwell when Emerson Palmieri returns from his loan spell at Lyon.

Despite reaching 38 later this year, Thiago Silva will remain a veteran at the back, but who will join the Brazilian is still up in the air.

Tuchel is expected to stay with his back three systems, especially if the Blues are unable to recruit Declan Rice to provide defensive cover.

Chelsea are keen to recruit Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, while RB Leipzig’s left-sided centre-back Josko Gvardiol is also a target.

Following a good loan stint at Huddersfield, Levi Colwill might mount a claim, while Trevoh Chalobah will want to progress.

Blues may sell Jorginho but keep Mateo Kovacic.

Mason Mount might be played in a deeper position after playing in Tuchel’s front three, while Conor Gallagher may get an opportunity following an outstanding loan stint at Crystal Palace.
