However, based on the performance of different players in different competitions this season, a lot of predictions have been made on the possible players to win the award.
Thus, we will be looking at 8 potential players who could win the 2022 Ballon D’or award.
Below are the eight (8) players and their respective records for the 2021/22 football season:
1. Sadio Mane
Playing for Liverpool this season, he scored 23 goals in 51 games and created 5 assists. In total, he was able to record 28 goal contributions for Liverpool in the entire 51 games played.
2. Karim Benzema
Benzema has been rated to be the best player to win the Ballon D’or award this year considering his record in the 2021/22 football season. He played 46 games for Real Madrid this season and scored a total of 44 goals. Also, he created 15 assists, thereby, recording 59 goal contributions in 46 games.
3. Mohamed Salah
Salah has been one of the major players in Liverpool for the past few seasons. This season, he played 51 games for Liverpool, and in all the 51 games, he scored 31 goals and created 16 assists. Unlike Mane, he recorded 47 goal contributions in 51 games.
4. Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe is arguably one of the best players this season, considering his performance. Playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), he scored 39 goals in 46 games, and also created 26 assists. Thus, he recorded 65 goal contributions in just 46 games.
5. Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne has been rated to be one of the best midfielders Manchester City has ever had. He played a total of 45 games for Manchester City this season, and in all the 45 games played, he scored 19 goals for the club, and also created 14 assists. So, he recorded a total of 33 goal contributions in 45 games played.
6. Robert Lewandowski
Just like Benzema, Lewandowski has also been rated as another player who has the potential of winning the 2022 Ballon D’or award this season. He’s arguably one of the best players with the best records this season. While playing for Bayern Munich, he scored 50 goals in 46 games, and also created 7 assists. This means that he recorded 57 goal contributions in just 46 games.
7. Thibaut Courtois
Real Madrid goalkeeper is the only goalkeeper with the potential of winning this year’s Ballon D’or award. Courtois recorded an astounding performance for Real Madrid this season, especially while playing in the Champions League, thus, a prediction has been made that he has the potential to win the award.
He played 51 games for Real Madrid this season and conceded 46 goals. However, he also recorded 22 clean sheets for the club.
8. Luka Modric
The last man on the list is Real Madrid’s midfielder, Luka Modric. Although, he wasn’t able to score many goals this season, however, he contributed a whole lot to the team’s victory, especially in the Champions League. He played 45 games for Real Madrid this season and scored only 3 goals. Also, he created 12 assists, thus, recording 15 goal contributions in 45 games.
Thus, these are the 8 potential winners of the Ballon D’or award this year. It will be difficult for another player to win the award this year outside the above-mentioned players.
Based on the records seen above, Mbappe has the best record, then followed by Karim Benzema, and Robert Lewandowski (respectively). However, people have predicted that Benzema has more potential of winning the award.
Benzema won more trophies than any of these players this season, and more precisely, winning the Champions League title this season gave him more chance of winning the award. This is why he’s rated as the best candidate for the award.
