Asisat Oshoala made an impactful return to action, scoring her first goal of the season for FC Barcelona as they began their Spanish Liga F title defense with a convincing 2-0 victory against Madrid CFF in the opening game of the season.
Oshoala scored in the 40th minute, with Norwegian international Caroline Hansen finding the back of the net from Claudia Pina’s assist at the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcala de Henares in Madrid.
Barcelona held a one-goal lead going into halftime, and the Nigerian forward entered the match in the 75th minute, replacing Patricia Guijarro.
The newly-signed Spanish defender, Ona Batlle, played a crucial role in setting up Oshoala for Barcelona’s second goal, which came six minutes from time.
FC Barcelona are second on the Liga F table with three points, trailing behind Atletico Madrid, led by Rasheedat Ajibade.
Atletico secured a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao earlier in the day to claim the top spot.
