The 35-year old who captained his side to victory in the early hours of today was involved in all the 3 goals scored.
Lautaro Martinez gave Argentina the lead inside the first 16 minutes, but it was Messi who put things in motion. Spotting the run of Tagliafico, Messi sent a pinpoint pass into the path of the Lyon left back who then proceeded to assist Martinez for the opening goal.
Messi would go on to extend his team’s lead going into the break with a well-taken spot-kick in first half stoppage time.
With Honduras looking intent on not conceding another goal, Messi struck again after the hour mark with a stunning lobbed finish over the opposition goalie to mark his 8th goal in just 5 games for Argentina this year.
After the match official signalled the end of normal time, Messi granted the request of Honduras staff and players by posing together in front of the camera.
Argentina are currently on 34 games unbeaten run and will fancy their chances of breaking Italy’s world record if they don’t lose in their next 4 fixtures against Jamaica, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
With Messi in this Argentina team, Italy should be wary of their record.
