According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)Trusted Source, experiencing a sting from scorpion can cause life threatening complications. In this article, we shall be looking at some emergency ways to treat a scorpion sting.

1. Clean the site.

After experiencing a sting, a person should wash the area with soap and water and contact Poison Control for guidance. Often, a person will only need home care, such as pain relievers and ice. However, more serious cases may require additional medication and treatment.

2. Apply icing.

You might have minor problems, like pain, swelling, numbness, and tingling at the site. Put ice on the area to bring down the swelling. Take an antihistamine or use a hydrocortisone cream to ease inflammation and itching.

3. Take a pain reliever.

Take an over the counter pain reliever as needed. You might try ibuprofen (Motrin IB, Children’s Motrin, others), aspirin to help relieve the pain and ease discomfort.

4. Elevate the area to thesame level as your heart.

If the scorpion sting is on your arm or leg, elevate that limb so that it’s level with your heart, which should help with any swelling.
