Four important and frequent causes of stomach pain are: gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer and pancreatitis.

1. Gastritis

Gastritis is the inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the stomach internally. It is the most frequent cause of epigastric pain. The pain caused by gastritis is usually burning and can worsen at night.
Other frequent symptoms of gastritis are:

Nausea or vomiting;

Sensation of swelling in the belly;

Burning in the region of the abdomen or in the middle of the chest;

Lack of appetite.

Treatment of gastritis includes:

Dietary changes: reduction of acidic foods, containing caffeine, alcohol.

Medications: proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole and others) and antacids.

It may be necessary to use antibiotics to combat E. coli bacteria, associated with cases of gastritis.

2. Gastric ulcer

Gastric ulcer is a condition in which a small ulcer-like wound forms in the stomach.

It causes a sharp pain in the mouth of the stomach, which is also usually burning, and gets worse when eating.

Treatment may include the use of drugs that reduce gastric acidity, such as antacids and proton pump inhibitors. As with gastritis, antibiotics may also be needed to eradicate H. pylori bacteria when they are present in the stomach

3. Duodenal ulcer

Duodenal ulcer is also the formation of a wound, but in the duodenum, a region between the stomach and the intestine.

It also causes burning pain, but unlike the pain caused by gastric ulcer, the pain of duodenal ulcer is relieved by eating.

To help in healing and resolution of duodenal ulcer some measures are necessary such as:

Reduction of alcohol consumption;

Reduction of stress;

Eating in portions, several times a day and in smaller quantities;

Use medications that decrease the acidity of the stomach.

4. Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, an organ located in the left and upper abdomen, usually near the stomach.

Pancreatitis causes a banding pain, meaning that the whole upper region of the tummy can ache. The pain of pancreatitis is a severe pain, which can cause the person to acquire a defensive position or have a high reactivity when touching the region of pain.

Treatment of pancreatitis involves a number of actions to be taken, such as:

Cessation of alcohol use;

Use of analgesics to control the pain;

In acute cases, it may be necessary to fast for a certain period;

Use of pancreatic enzymes.

If you have severe pain in the mouth of your stomach, consult your doctor for an initial evaluation.
