During the current transfer window, however, the latter has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona. This summer, the Blues also lost key centre-backs Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers. As a result, they are eager to strengthen their defenses before the transfer window opens.

Thomas Tuchel’s team hoped to sign Seville’s long-term goalkeeper Jules Kounde. The Frenchman, who can play both centre-back and right-back, instead joins Barcelona. Pavard of Bayern Munich, who has similar versatility, has thus emerged as a Chelsea option.

This summer, they were linked with a move for the 26-year-old, along with Manchester United. When asked about his future at the Allianz Arena, Pavard remained tight-lipped. However, according to the above source, he is willing to join the Stamford Bridge club.

Bayern signed Pavard from VfB Stuttgart for around 30 million euros in the summer of 2019. Since then, the Frenchman has made 119 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, scoring 16 goals.

During his time at the club, Pavard has also helped the German giants win nine trophies. He could be on his way out this summer, however, as Chelsea is interested in signing him.
