Peter was arrested by operatives of Lagos State Police Command for killing Mrs. Sola Johnson (Nee Ogunle), on March 7, 2024 in her 29, Kiniun-Ifa Street, Gbagada, Lagos apartment.

The deceased, said to be an architect at the Lagos State Development Property Corporation, Ilupeju, Lagos, was allegedly attacked with the piece of wood when a fight ensued between her and the domestic servant.

She was said to be in-charge of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools in Lagos. The Point gathered that the suspect has confessed to having killed the woman with a long piece of wood.

The suspect, an indigene of Cross River State, who was employed on March 1, 2024, also confessed that he hit the deceased with the piece of wood about three times before she fell to the ground.

He consequently stole the woman’s phone, fled the house and ran to Benin Republic before he was arrested by the police.

He said, “When she came back from the office that day she asked why I did not wash her underwear in the bathroom. I did not reply. She then asked why I wasn’t responding to her question.

“In the process, she slapped me and brought out a belt and started flogging me all over. “Then in the process, I got angry, and we started fighting. It was also in the process of that fight that in self-defense, I picked up the piece of wood and hit her on the head.”

The Point gathered that the 83 year-old-mother of the deceased died in the same house on October 10, 2023 and that the house belongs to the deceased’s father.

She was said to be the only occupant in the building but there were three shops in front of the building. The lifeless body of the widow was discovered on Saturday, March 9, by her son, Dolapo Johnson, a student at the University of Lagos, who came to visit her after fruitless efforts to talk to her on phone.

A resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “The woman’s son, upon arriving at the compound, went straight to his mother’s apartment, only to find her corpse on the staircase, with blood all over her rotten body.

“A long piece of wood suspected to be the murder weapon was also found. By then, the body had started swelling, suggesting that the woman might have been killed days before.”
Policemen at the Ifako Police Division were said to have visited the scene on March 9 and evacuated the decomposing corpse.

Information gathered by The Point revealed that the fleeing house help was arrested by the Nigeria Police in Cotonou, Benin Republic on March 12 with the assistance of the agent who introduced him to the deceased.

The Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed that the house help has been arrested.

Hundeyin added that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos for further investigations.

The Point gathered at the weekend that family members have concluded plans to bury the late Mrs. Johnson at her private residence in Magboro, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun.

The deceased’s lover (names withheld) was said to have promised to give her a befitting burial. He was said to have provided funds for the purchase of a casket and the tomb.

He also pledged to complete the education of the two children left behind by the deceased since they don’t have a father anymore.
