The older of the duo is Anthony Taylor. He was born in Manchester on October 20, 1978 and became a referee in 2002. Taylor officiated in four UCL matches in the 2021/22 season. He was in charge of the Group E match between Dynamo Kyiv and Benfica on September 14, 2021. He issues three yellow cards for either side during the match.

The 43-year-old referee was also in charge when Lille hosted RB Salzburg on November 23, 2021. Seven cautions were awarded in the course of the clash with four of them going to the visiting team. When Serie A club, Atalanta hosted Villarreal in December, 2021, Taylor was the centre referee. He issued three yellow cards.

The highly respected English referee was in action when Villarreal played host to Bayern Munich in the Quarter Finals. The only booking of the match went to Pervis Estupiñán of the home team.

The second English referee that took part in the European elite competition was Michael Oliver. Like his compatriot, Oliver officiated in four matches during the tournament. In his first UCL appearance, he officiated in the match between heavyweights Barcelona Nd Bayern Munich at Camp Nou. Two of the three cautions issued during the match went to the away team.

His second match of the competition was Lille versus Sevilla. He booked four players from the home team and one from the visiting side. In the Group C match between Borussia Dortmund and Ajax he awarded issued one yellow card to each side but the German side received a red and also benefited from a penalty kick.

The last match that Oliver managed was the first leg of the Round of 16 clash between RB Salzburg and Bayern Munich at the Red Bull Arena. Only one of the three bookings in the match went to the home team.
