In the summer of 2013, Lukaku first transferred from Chelsea to Everton on loan. He led Everton to a fifth-place finish that season with 15 league goals. Later, a permanent contract was reached with the Belgian striker for a club-record £28 million.

In addition to becoming one of the league’s top attackers, Lukaku consistently made the difference for the Toffees. Lukaku was named to the PFA Team of the Year in 2016–17. Manchester United paid £75 million to sign the prolific goal scorer from Belgium in the summer of 2017.

9. Dimitar Berbatov (Spurs to Manchester United)

After moving from Bayern Munich to Spurs, Berbatov had established himself as one of the league’s finest scorers. However, there were rumors that Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United were interested in the striker in the summer of 2008.

Berbatov fought his way out of Spurs and paid £30 million to join the Red Devils. The striker made over 140 appearances for Manchester United and captured three English Super Cups, two League Cups, and two Premier League championships. Additionally, he was the 2010–11 Premier League Golden Boot winner.

8. Fernando Torres (Liverpool to Chelsea)

At Liverpool, Fernando Torres was a totally different animal. In 141 games with Liverpool, the Spanish striker scored 80 goals and contributed 20 assists. However, Torres was the target of interest from Chelsea, another Premier League powerhouse, in the January 2011 transfer window.

Torres submitted a transfer request despite the reds rejecting a £40 million proposal. On the day of the transfer deadline, Chelsea agreed to buy him out for £50 million. With only 45 goals in 171 games, the Spanish striker struggled to find his form in the blue shirt.

7. Michael Carrick (Spur to Manchester United)

With West Ham United, Carrick established himself in the Premier League before transferring to Spurs. But Manchester United was where he had the most success. The English defensive midfielder joined the team in 2006 and went on to win five Premier League championships, one Champions League, one Europa League, three English League Cups, one FA Cup, and one Club World Cup.

Carrick continues to be one of the most underappreciated players ever to play the game, despite winning practically everything with Manchester United. After retiring, he later accepted the position of assistant manager at the team.

6. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool to Manchester City)

With Liverpool, Sterling had success in the Premier League. On March 24, 2012, he took the field for the first time against Wigan Athletic. With Luis Suarez, the English winger created a potent attacking duo. He eventually made 129 appearances for the reds before leaving in the summer of 2001 to join Manchester City for a figure close to £44 million.

Sterling has won several other trophies since joining the Citizens, including the Premier League championship four times. The current transfer window is almost over, and the England international will soon join Chelsea of the Premier League.

5. Robin van Persie (Arsenal to Manchester United)

At Arsenal, Robin van Persie was revered as a god. The Dutch forward contributed 58 assists along with 132 goals for the Gunners. In an effort to convince him to continue with the team, he was given the number 10 jersey and the captain’s armband.

However, he compelled a move to Manchester United in 2012 in the hopes of contending and taking home significant championships. His dream was granted because he was a vital part of the Red Devils’ 2012–2013 Premier League championship team. In 2014, he also triumphed in the English Super Cup.

4. Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United)

With 260 goals, Shearer holds the record for the most Premier League goals in history. Blackburn Rovers received one goal from the English striker. However, Manchester United and Real Madrid were eager to capture the striker after EURO’96. However, Blackburn Rovers resisted selling their prized scorer.

He eventually signed with Newcastle United, a direct league rival of Manchester United, for a record sum of £15 million. Shearer eventually scored 206 goals for Newcastle, however he never won a trophy while playing for the Magpies. While Manchester United continued to win numerous titles under Sir Alex Ferguson’s leadership.

3. Frank Lampard (West Ham to Chelsea)

The Premier League’s leading scorer in midfield continues to be the current Everton manager. The English midfielder began his professional career with West Ham, where he established himself in the Premier League. In June 2001, he paid £11 million to join Chelsea.

Lampard continued to play for the Blues for more than 600 times, winning the Premier League and the Champions League along the way. He even led Chelsea for two seasons until being fired in the middle of the 2020–21 campaign.

2. Rio Ferdinand (Leeds United to Manchester United)

Ferdinand twice broke the record for the most expensive British footballer, once when he transferred from We Ham to Leeds United and again when he transferred to Manchester United.

The storied English defender transferred from Leeds United, a fierce foe of Manchester United. He continued to play for the Red Devils, making 454 appearances, and winning 6 Premier League championships, 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 3 League Cups, and 4 Supe Cups.

1. Carlos Tevez (West Ham to Manchester City)

It doesn’t appear problematic at first glance for players to transfer from West Ham to Manchester City. But when it comes to Carlos Teves, this was not the case. The Argentine moved from the Hammers to Manchester United on a two-year loan. With the Red Devils, he went on to win the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and two Premier League championships.

Tevez will become one of the highest-paid players at Manchester United after a deal on a fee was reached with West Ham. However, the striker declined the contract offer and instead agreed to a five-year contract with Manchester City for a British record price of £47 million. Before relocating to Italy, Teves won the Premier League and FA Cup with the Citizens.
