But that’s exactly what happened to single mum Kendra Roxberry after she picked a pricey seafood restaurant to go on a date there.

She revealed she had been seeing the ‘charming’ man for a couple of months when he asked what restaurant she wanted to visit.

But the 29-year-old mum was appalled to receive a message a week later, asking if she could pay $376.54 ‘to get his lights turned back on’.

He ends the message by saying ‘I figured it wouldn’t be an issue since I paid for your seafood boil lol’. Kendra said he had footed the $250 bill of the date but had told her not to worry about it before he let her pick the restaurant.

The mum-of-two claims his tall ‘dad bod’ figure made him her type instantly and that they shared the same sense of humour so she’s disappointed he tried to ‘guilt trip her’.

Baffled Kendra says she replied the day after to say ‘lol … really? I’m not sure this is going to work out. Good luck!’, before blocking his number.

The nurse who is now back in the dating pool said she had a lucky escape. ‘The trash took itself out,’ she said and she’s grateful she realised how ‘toxic’ he was before their relationship became more serious.

She insists she’s not ‘cold-hearted’ and wouldn’t have minded him asking if he didn’t hold the date ‘over her head’ in order to try extract cash out of her.

She posted the message to Facebook the same day and it’s since racked up more than 400 comments baffled at the brazen singleton’s request.

Kendra, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, said: “The trash took itself out. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with reaching out for help but using the date over my head to try and get money out of me threw me off him.

“He was very handsome, smart, kind and he seemed very well-put-together. He had a similar sense of humour and we got along great. The chemistry was there.”

Kendra notes that she thought the pair were paying evenly as she had also paid for dates the pair went on. She added: “I wasn’t using him for his money and expecting him to pay for everything. I enjoyed his company and would pay for things too.”

Gutted, Kendra says she thought things were going well but is now back at the drawing board. “I wish he would have approached it in a totally different way rather than it being something he expected me to do,” she revealed.

“I’m not a cold-hearted person and I realise times are hard and sometimes people need help. “Living alone in this economy I get that things are expensive but being a welder I assumed he had his stuff together and his pay was similar to mine.

“If you ask someone on a date and you say the budget doesn’t matter then you assume they have their finances in order.”

Kendra decided to draw a line in the sand and cut their relationship off immediately – saying it was ‘quite toxic’ and ‘so rude.’

“If he was willing to hold that over my head so soon then who knows how toxic a relationship could be with him.” Kendra claims she had matched with Josh on Tinder before messaging for a week then going on Josh on five dates and meeting up a few times.

At the seafood restaurant, she says the pair got a seafood boil each and a few drinks before he paid the whole bill. Kendra said: “The last time we went out he asked where I wanted to go.

“I wasn’t really sure about his budget situation but he said it didn’t matter and I could pick wherever I wanted to go.

“I told him that if you really don’t care where we go I’d really like to go to the local seafood place and I know that it’s a little bit pricey.

“He said ‘great’ and that was fine, so that’s where we went.” Her post containing a screenshot of Josh’s message has been liked almost 1,000 times.

One commented: “I’d be asking why he got you a $200 seafood boil when he had bills to pay? That doesn’t sound like your problem.”

A second agreed and said: “You should laugh react and never talk to him again. Shouldn’t have paid for the boil if he had bills to pay.” A third joked: “Tell him you have a better idea and send him 376 glow sticks…CONTINUE READING>>
