According to reports, Manchester United are considering a free transfer for seasoned defender Santiago Arias. During the summer transfer season, the Red Devils were thought to be eager to add a new right-back to the squad, but Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka remained the only possibilities....CONTINUE READING

The Portuguese international has maintained his starting position from the second half of last season and has so far established himself as a key member of the team under new head coach Erik ten Hag.

Wan-Bissaka, on the other hand, has apparently been informed that he is surplus to needs, and the manager does not currently have any plans for the Englishman.

The Red Devils have few options at right-back because Ethan Laird was permitted to join Queens Park Rangers over the summer and Brandon Williams is presently sidelined.

According to journalist Johnson Saenz, the 20-time English champions are interested in bringing Arias to the club as cover in that area of the field.

Saenz claims that the Colombian already ‘has his bags ready’, with Man United prepared to hand him a two-year contract to make the move to Old Trafford.

After leaving Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in June, the 30-year-old has been without a team ever since. During his tenure with the capital club, he made 51 appearances. Arias played 14 times for Granada during his loan season in La Liga, scoring once.

The addition of the South American could result in Wan-Bissaka departing Old Trafford in January, as Crystal Palace is rumoured to have expressed interest in their former prodigy over the summer.

Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez helped Man United strengthen their defense over the summer, and both players have had productive debut seasons with the team.

Furthermore, it’s been said that Manchester United are still closely monitoring Frenkie de Jong’s situation at Barcelona. The Red Devils were determined to sign the Netherlands international from La Blaugrana, in a protracted summer transfer saga.

The former Ajax superstar remains Erik ten Hag’s top objective for the middle of the park, and Barcelona reportedly accepted a £63 million offer from Man United in the summer.

De Jong, 25, is still under contract with Xavi’s team as the transfer window closed since he had no interest in leaving Catalonia for Manchester. He allegedly stated that he never intended to leave Barcelona, but the question of the Dutchman’s £15.2m deferred salary also created complications.

Nevertheless, journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that the 20-time English champions are still keeping a sharp eye on De Jong’s situation as he struggles for regular starts.

“I’m sure Manchester United are continuing to monitor the Frenkie de Jong situation at Barcelona,” O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT

“It, obviously, was a blow for United not to be able to get that deal over the line because he was their number one target.

De Jong’s current Camp Nou contract isn’t set to expire until the conclusion of the 2025–26 campaign, but Xavi hasn’t frequently started games with him this year.

The 25-year-old started one of his team’s first four La Liga games, but he played the entire 90 minutes against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday.

For the most part, Gavi and Pedri have been favoured to play in the middle alongside Sergio Busquets, while De Jong is competing with summer acquisition Franck Kessie for playing time. De Jong has therefore played in three of his four league games this year as a substitute.
