Paris Saint Germain’s major aim has been to win the UEFA Champions League and they haven’t done so as they have now crashed out of the competition tonight after Bayern Munich defeated them by 3-0 on aggregate. Meanwhile, the victory has explained why the UCL trophy can not be bought with money.
PSG started the tournament with much enthusiasm and a dream of winning the trophy at the end of the season. The French club is known to be a big money spender in the market to get any players of their choice. They also pay the players in their team a heavy amount which is quite different to other clubs.
Bayern Munich whipped them on both legs in the round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals. Kingsley Coman’s goal in the first leg separated both sides in Paris. The second leg which everyone expected to be tough ended in an easy win for Bayern Munich. Choupo-Moting scored the opener while Gnabry scored the second goal to seal the win.
However, the victory has explained why the UCL trophy cannot be bought. The French club spent a total of €600m in 2012 and 2021 and all this spending has not secured the UCL trophy. The trophy can only be won by team commitment i.e when everyone is on the same page.
The whole team needs to work together tirelessly to achieve the aim and this is what is missing in their game. Nevertheless, they will need to come back stronger next year and try their quality again. Just that top players like Messi, Neymar, and Ramos might have left the club by then.
