Unfortunately for the Argentine maestro, his 8-year wait for a 5th UCL title continues following PSG’s elimination from the tournament tonight.

Over 180 minutes in both legs of PSG’s round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich, Messi couldn’t muster a goal nor assist as he failed to reach the competition’s quarterfinal in back-to-back seasons for the very first time in his career.

With Neymar already ruled out through injury, Messi and Mbappé were tasked with penetrating the solid central defensive partnership of Matthijs de Ligt and Upamecano.

Unsurprisingly, both Messi and Mbappé were kept at bay as PSG struggled to create something meaningful in front of their opponent’s goalpost.

At the end of the match, Messi was singled out for criticism by fans on social media who seemingly forgot the 35-year old can’t do it all by himself.

“Ronaldo will always be ahead of Messi in the Champions League”, claims ‘Ghana Yesu’ who attached a picture of Cristiano’s hat-trick against Bayern in the UCL.

And right here, popular Tweep ‘AsiwajuLerry’ called Messi “the biggest big match ghost” and even stated that the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner “disappears whenever his team needs him the most”.

Let’s have your say on Messi’s performance tonight.
