This comes as a result of Manchester City and Liverpool taking the Premier League battle down to the final day of the previous season, with Manchester City emerging victorious by a single point over the Merseyside club.
As part of their preparation for the upcoming season, which is expected to be more intense than in previous years, the two parties have made some high-caliber additions this summer.
Earling Haaland was selected as the new permanent replacement for Aguero by the Sky Blues, while Darwin Nunez was acquired by the Reds when Sadio Mane was released from his contract.
In an interview with Sky Sports conducted before to the start of the Premier League season, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already disqualified his team from contention for the crown by naming Manchester City as the favorite to win the league.
In spite of the fact that this gave Pep Guardiola a competitive edge heading into that season, Sky sports analyst Paul Merson is of the opinion that Liverpool’s new acquisition Nunez Darwin is the one who has the title fight in the palm of his hand.
Merson is the first to admit that the departure of Sadio Mane from Liverpool this summer could have an impact on the club. However, Merson believes that this impact might not be as significant if Nunez Darwin gets off to a strong start in his first season in the Premier League.
Merson also added that Nunez Darwin is the player who could make it the easiest for Manchester City to win their third Premier League title in a row if he fails to fire next season. Merson made this statement in reference to the possibility that Nunez Darwin will not fire.
Merson stated that the only thing that should concern Liverpool is the fact that they have parted ways with an incredible player in Sadio Mane, who has provided them with numerous important goals over the course of their history.
“If Jurgen Klopp can get Nunez firing immediately, it’ll be tight once again, but if that doesn’t happen, I think Manchester City should win the Premier League,” you said. “If that doesn’t happen, though, I think Manchester City should win the Premier League.”
Merson believes that Nunez will have delivered Manchester City another trophy if he is unable to dominate the Premier League during the upcoming season.
