Overactive bladder comprises of different types of symptoms that include the need to urinate more frequently, leakage and a need to urinate at night regularly. Sadly, one or all of these symptoms can cause considerable stress and a negative impact on your quality of life if not handled properly.

Some habits or behaviour play a key role in urinating frequently. However, there are many techniques and changes you can try to help with an overactive bladder. Some of them are

#1. Monitoring your diet by Eliminating or reducing those foods or beverages that may worsen your bladder symptoms. Examples include; Alcohol, chocolate, carbonated soft drinks, tea, spicy, acidic food as well as drinks, food with artificial sweeteners.

#2. Try to maintain good bowel habits regularly because having constipation can place added pressure on the bladder and harm your bladder function. But by keeping healthy bowel habits, you may be able to avoid constipation and help to lessen bladder symptoms.

After trying some behavioural techniques or changes you can use medication to treat overactive bladder. However, ask your doctor about the risks and benefits of using the following commonly prescribed medications.

Anticholinergic medications can help to control muscle spasms in the bladder. Some of them include; Oxybutinin Gel, Solifenacin, Darifenacin, Oxybutynin, oxybutynin XL, oxybutynin TDDS, Fesoterodine.

Having an overactive bladder is not a death sentence. It is very treatable, although it requires assistance from you and your doctor. However, the treatment for an overactive bladder can range from changing certain lifestyles or habits to medications to nerve stimulation as I have stated above.

When you feel or have the urge to urinate it can be difficult to control as your body becomes restless. Unfortunately, overactive bladder therapy can be challenging to manage. However, by taking the right treatment and medication as directed by your doctor, many people are very satisfied with the treatment they received because they often see a drastic improvement in their quality of life.
