After revealing that her husband had two children from his previous marriage, she told how his ex-wife had advocated for custody of their eldest 26-year-old daughter, while the 16-year-old, autistic daughter was left to live with them.

She said: “Since then, his younger daughter always felt kind of unloved by her mum and doesn’t go too far out of her way to talk to her.”

She then told how the eldest daughter had recently received a dream job offer, requesting a celebratory family dinner with everyone in attendance: “The daughter seems like a nice girl from the times I’ve interacted with her, but her mum seems passive-aggressive and unkind,” she said.

At the restaurant she then revealed how her step-daughter had been ‘overwhelmed’ about what to eat, and after she helped her choose, she had said ‘thanks mum’ in-front of her real mum. “I guess she said it loud enough that her biological mum heard, because she literally stopped everything and asked ‘what did you just say?’”

After trying to diffuse the situation, she then told how the evening had been very uncomfortable, leading to the girl apologising to her dad and step-mum on the way home: “She tried to apologise for ruining the evening, to which we told her she didn’t.”

She then admitted that her stepdaughter had been left ‘upset and confused’ by everything that had happened: “She clearly thinks this is all her fault. I just hate that this woman is upsetting her so much and I see why my husband divorced her.”

Reddit readers were quick to side with the couple, with one saying: “That poor girl. If her mum acted like a mum then it wouldn’t have happened. Her actions, or lack of, have consequences.”
