Despite her recent hiatus from politics, the former first lady still has a significant following in the Democratic Party due to her celebrity status.

“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has stated numerous times over the years, she will not run for president,” Crystal Carson, director of communications for her office, told NBC News. “Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ re-election campaign.”

A new Rasmussen poll found that over half of Democrats want to replace Joe Biden as their presidential choice. Obama had the most support among potential replacements (20%), beating Vice President Kamala Harris (15%).

The Daily Mail reports that Obama’s recent admission of being “terrified” about the election outcome has rekindled rumors about her future candidacy, despite her previous lack of enthusiasm in running for politics.

“What will happen in the next election?” “I’m terrified about what could happen because our leaders are important,” she remarked.

“Who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit, it affects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted,” Obama told Jay Shetty on his podcast “On Purpose” in January.

Obama stated in an interview with Oprah last year that she has no desire to run for office. In a Netflix show last year, she stated that politics demands a profound passion, which she lacks.

Similarly, in a 2022 BBC interview, she indicated a disdain for inquiries about a possible presidential run. According to NBC, Obama was disappointed when Jill Biden declined to be Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential campaign.

When asked by CNN about the idea of Obama as a running mate, Jill Biden expressed appreciation while also hinting at Obama’s political exhaustion.

“I’d love it if Michelle agreed to it. But, you know, I think she’s had enough with politics. I do not know. She’s excellent at whatever she does. That would be fantastic.

According to sources, Obama was disappointed with Biden’s response and ordered him to prepare a more open-ended response for future questions about her prospective political activity.
