This weekend, we witnessed one of the most incredible goalkeeping performances in the Uefa Champions League final as Thibaut Courtois almost singlehandedly won Real Madrid the match.

The Belgian international was at his brilliant best as he made 9 incredible saves to deny Liverpool a goal.

After Real Madrid were crowned Champions of Europe for the 14th time, the former Chelsea shot stopper was named the man of the match.

Reacting to the performance in the final, many football fans have hailed the Real Madrid goalkeeper as the best in the world currently, a title that is very hard to argue.

Everyone expects to see Courtois scoop all the goalkeeper awards for this year, starting with the UCL best goalkeeper award.

Although, last year’s winner, Edouard Mendy could shockingly retain the award after his brilliant tournament this year.

Last season, Mendy won the award with a clean sheet percentage of 75% after keeping 9 clean sheets in just 12 matches as he helped Chelsea win the Champions League.

This season, the Chelsea shot stopper still stands at number one on the rankings of the goalkeepers with the best clean sheet percentage in the competition.

With a clean sheet percentage of 55.6% after 5 clean sheets in 9 matches, he has retained his number one position in the ranking.

Thibaut Courtois who is very likely to win the best goalkeeper of the tournament award is on 3rd position with a clean sheet percentage of 38.5% after keeping just 5 clean sheets in 13 matches.

Although, very unlikely, Edouard Mendy could retain his award. After all, he has the best statistics in the competition.

But if this happens, it would no doubt create an outrage in the footballing world.

Thibaut Courtois won the Uefa Champions League and was the man of the match in the final. He has the same clean sheets as Mendy, although he played more matches.

I think it would be unfair not to give him the award because he deserves it. Even though Mendy has a better clean sheet percentage.
