The England international is one of the finest holding midfielders in the Premier League, and he is likely to chase a greater challenge in the next transfer window.

Arsenal have previously been connected with the £100 million-rated player, and The Athletic now say that United are also watching his status ahead of the summer.

However, the club is not contemplating a formal approach owing to the price tag, and Erik ten Hag’s interests lie elsewhere. The boss is chasing a marquee scorer and a creative midfielder. Ten Hag is aiming to add two players before pre-season. Chelsea’s Mason Mount is one of them.

The Red Devils had underlying issues in the defensive midfield sector following the 2021–22 season, but they managed to locate the appropriate remedy in Casemiro.

The Brazilian has been a spectacular signing for Real Madrid. He has put up some standout defensive efforts while adding vital goals and assists.

His place is now safe in the number six role, and from our perspective, the club may not chase another holding midfielder unless Scott McTominay departs shortly.

Even in such circumstances, Rice may not be considered by United. The England great would be a wonderful addition, but he would want the guarantee of a starting berth.

Rice has the potential to play in the number eight position, but Mount is the number one objective for the management, and United must give precedence to the request.
